Is There Specific Destination Wedding Etiquette?

My husband I received a word of mouth invitation (from Bride to be) to a wedding in Jamaica! We would love to take time off from work to go but we were told 6 months before and don’t have much time to get our passports, pay for accommodations, etc. What is proper etiquette for attending destination wedding and after the expense of airfare and accommodations, what is a fair gift for the new couple?

My College Roommate Wants to Stay at My Place During the Wedding…HELP!

Hi Violet,

My old college roommate who lives out of town just e-mailed me and wants to know where she is staying during my wedding. I’m so stressed out and don’t want to be organizing housing for her or anyone else but what do I do? I have reserved hotel rooms for guests but I know that she doesn’t have very much money. Would it be rude to tell her to go to the hotel? Do I have an obligation to put her up at my place?

I know that you have very few, if any, exceptions to your etiquette rules, but I am hoping that you will give me one. My friend and I just had a huge falling out and we’re not speaking. She definitely owes me an apology before I speak to her again, and I do not anticipate that happening. My dilemma is that I already sent her a save the date to the wedding.
